Location Photos for 'House On Hyde Street'
I have just added a couple of original filming locations and actual photos to the locations page. This time you will find screencaps and corresponding location photos for 'House On Hyde Street', an episode that was supposed to be located on Nob Hill and/or Russian Hill, but was actually filmed on Potrero Hill. For those of you being familiar with San Francisco, the downhill perspectives in the opening scene - as well as throughout the whole episode - immediately revealed the actual location to be on Potrero Hill, of course - an area that was utilized for location filming quite frequently for the series.
As a sidenote, I decided to skip the thumbnails on the locations page, and added larger-sized pictures instead, so you have screencaps and actual location photos side-by-side in a reasonable (viewable) size. :)

The screencaps for The Runaways are now accessible though the episodes' page. Three young runaways from Oregon, George, Jack and Sharon Morgan are squatting in a condemned house in San Francisco. Sharon, the youngest of the three, is very sick, but they got no money for medicine and the oldest brother, George, does not want to take her for hospital treatment in fear of juvenile court and (another) split-up of the family. Instead, he decides to break into a local pharmacy after hours, collecting several antibiotics and cough medicine. Surprised by the pharmacist who suddenly appears in the back door and immediately fires a gun on him, George tries to escape through the front door. The pharmacist, however, blocks the way, and when George hustles him the owners' back of the head strikes an edge of the door while falling onto the ground. George tries to look after the conciousless man, but when he recognizes the police siren coming closer, he immediately collects the gun and runs away - well observed by a newspaper boy who is preparing his next delivery at the opposite corner. Following the information given by the newspaper boy, Mike and Steve take care of the younger brother Jack and Sharon, who is immediately taken to hospital. In the first instance, George's predictions seem to come true: Mike calls the juvenile court - what he has to do - but apart from his initial doubts, Jack quickly realises that assigned Judge Millie Cox, a warm-hearted caretaker of orphans, could be different. Meanwhile, George makes a bad decision: he decides to take the judge hostage when she invites his brother for lunch although Jack tries to convince him this would be a fatal error. Mike and Steve, together with Millie Cox's husband (the two are good friends of Mike for decades, and we learn that Mike would have married her if he had not met his deceased love), need to hurry before George comes to another fatal decision.
This episode's first location is a condemned house which is no longer existing. It was located in the Western Addition, adjacent to the McAllister and Octavia Streets intersection, and was demolished under the City's housing project in the 1970's. George Morgan breaks into a local pharmacy in North Beach, at the corner of Stockton and Filbert, which is the northeastern border of famous Washington Square. Hospital indoor scenes were probably taken at SF General Hospital, and we are introduced to Judge Millie Cox who is entering SF City Hall (external view) but actually enters the Criminal Courts and SFPD headquarters building (interior views) on Bryant Street. She later takes Jack Morgan to the 'House of Pancakes' which is no longer existing as a business, but the building at Lomabrd & Pierce is still there, including the parking lot where George takes her hostage. The two brothers take her to the Southern Windmill of Golden Gate Park which was broken-up later but rebuilt again in 2011. Mike is being called to the waterfront where Millie Cox's car was left behind close to Pier 34, whereas George gives him a call using a telephone booth on 16th Street, just south of Market Street (you can see Mission Dolores Basilica in the background), giving advice for the handover of his younger sister, Sharon. Police sets a trap at that location, i.e. former Southern Pacific railway depot at 3rd and Townsend. The historical building, erected in 1915, was closed and demolished just two years after this episode was filmed, and on the following chase Jack as well as Mike pass right through the construction site of the station that later replaced 3rd and Townsend depot, located across the street at 4th and Townsend, and opened for operation in 1975.

I just would like to keep you updated: due to the birth of our second addition to the family in late October, I am quite behind the schedule concerning the latest updates.
I already prepared the addition of the next episode's screencaps and locations info, as well as another addition to the Locations page (for 'House on Hyde Street'). These will be online within the next few days... and I hope I'll be able to keep up the weekly updates soon again.

Screencaps for Ep 2.11 added
I have recently added the screencaps for The Victims to the episodes' page. While on convict labour, a trio of prisoners simulates an accident, takes a wounded guard hostage and later throws him off the getways vehicle. Steve has to leave his new love affair Connie - an attractive female journalist - behind when Mike calls for duty. They meet up at the hospital where the guard is treated due to being in danger of life, checking the prison's files on the fugitives. In the meantime, the escaped convicts embark on an uncompromisingly trail of violence and murder. Following a hold-up murder in a local apparel store, they kidnap and kill an elderly couple. Steve has to argue with his new girlfriend about the question if or if not criminals are also victims. Mike, who has anything but comprehension for her point of view in this particular case, lets her come with them to the crime scene where the elderly couple was killed, leaving her shocked and almost muzzled - more by Steve's unemotional way of working than by the barbarism they have to face. Another hostage-taking as well as rape are soon on the convicts' account before police can trace them to a groundkeeper's shed at the San Francisco Zoo.
The opening sequence of this episode takes us to the Marin Headlands where a group of prisoners is on convict labour. On their escape in the prison's truck, the trio is running down Conzelman Road which offers that great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Steve and Connie are on a motor boat tour and return to what is supposed to be Connie's waterfront house located somewhere on the east shore of the Bay (we can see the lower eastern span of the Bay Bridge in the background). The escaped trio decends on a local apparel store on Clement Street in the western part of Richmond District (the store is still there as of 2015), and police later locates the getaway truck in a parking lot at Lands' End with famous Cliff House and Seal Rocks in the near background. Next, the trail of violence leads Mike and Steve to an industrial area at Phelps Street and McKinnon Avenue (you can spot that remarkable industrial facility and chimney, plus elevated I-280 in background) where Steve almost crashes with a truck. The cons are trying to find a sufficient hideout, and the filming crew made a tremendous jump here: the scene opens with their car turning right from Clement Street onto 31st Avenue, direction north (we can see Sea Cliff mansions at the end of the street through the car's windshield, and Lincoln Park Presbytarian Church as well as the center building of George Washington High School through the back window). Then, the filming crew made a cut and relocated to Ingleside Terraces for the Thompson house which the escapees use as their hide out. Later on, the convicts take Betty Thompson hostage and try to get away again, using the family's camper. They need to refill the tank at a Chevron gas station at Fulton and 7th Ave (demolished, and area rebuilt). Finally, police surrounds them in the groundkeeper shed of San Francisco Zoo, before Mike gets Steve back to his house on Union Street where Connie is waiting for him.

As announced earlier - and thanks to the priceless help of fellow fan Liz from the Bay Area - I will extend the locations page by adding a variety of original filming locations and actual location photos throughout the next months.
