Location Photos for 'A Room With A View'

First of all, I would like to wish you and your beloved ones a very Merry Christmas.

As promised before, I added location photos for 'A Room With A View' to the locations page. These were rather easy to locate since the screenplay writers used a real address for the informer's hide-out. Most of the filming for this episode took place in the Mission District, particularly in the locations shown (Roy Chaffee's hide-out and Mary Rae Dortmunder's apartment).

Screencaps for Ep 1.18 added

I have uploaded the screencaps for A Room With A View to the episodes' page. This one opens with the murder of a bookmaker's brother, since the actual target, Roy Chaffee, is willing to leave the business and to provide information to the police as his wife is expecting their first baby. Following the murder of his brother, Chaffee quickly skips a secret meeting he had planned with Stone and Keller, and disappears in a hide-out unknown to the police. Our two cops got word that Art Styles, a known hitman of Hoyt Llewelyn - another bookmaker with high aspirations - was set on finding and eliminating Chaffee, so they are staking out the suspected hitman's location. When Llewelyn is found dead in his car in the San Francisco bay - and being unaware of the fact that Chaffee's hide-out is right across the street from Styles' location - Mike and Steve are somehow stuck. After Steve suggests to shadow Chaffee's wife, just in case he would try to see her, they are finally on his trail. The core story of this episode, however, is the relationship between Art Styles and his hostage, Mary Rae Dortmunder - a simple-hearted junior high school teacher, whose apartment serves him as observation spot. In the beginning, Styles is quite making fun of Mary Rae's naivety and her imagination of an idyllic world. Later on, however, her questions and her sympathy are somehow affecting him.

Much of this episode takes place in the Mission District. Roy Chaffee's brother was killed in his car on 24th Street, close to Castro Street, and Roy Chaffee's hide-out is located on 933 Church Street, with Mary Rae Dortmunder's apartment right across the street. Stone and Keller are observing Chaffee's wife and their house on Hill Street, close to Sanchez Street. Mary Rae is teaching at Everett Junior High School (today Everett Middle School) which is also located on Church Street, between 16th and 17th Streets. Additional filming locations include the Conservatory of Flowers (where Mike and Steve intended to meet Roy Chaffee in the beginning), the Yacht Harbour on Marina Boulevard (where Hoyt Llewellyn's boat is anchored), and, for the final sequence, San Francisco International Airport. Llewellyn was murdered in the Pier 36 basin, however, several Piers have been demolished in the meantime, and Pier 36 is among these.

ABC Press Release Photo Archive Supplemented

The ABC press release photo archive on the media page was just supplemented by another 10 original pictures, making up a total of 40 photos in this section right now. There are more original press photos to follow, including ABC releases as well as from the various re-distribution media campaigns issued by Worldvision and Warner Bros., respectively. There's also a fifth NBC press photo on the way, supplementing the current batch of four pictures for the 1991 TV movie.

The forthcoming update will cover the next due episode's extended synopsis and screencaps (A Room With A View). I will also have some location photos for this particular episode online very soon.

Stay tuned! :)

Screencaps for Ep 1.17 added

I have just added the screencaps for A Collection of Eagles to the episodes' page. Vincent Hagopian, a second generation coin dealer, plans to replace a set of rare 'Double Eagle' coins in a richman's collection by duplicates he is producing himself. After killing one of his henchmen and with homicide stuck in the investigation of another murder in a shabby waterfront hotel - where Steve discovered a gold coin workpiece - Hagopian is questioned by Stone and Keller as an expert. Soon after, Steve discovers that the alleged expert did not mention a decisive detail in the listing of collectors and customers he provided. With the rare coins already exchanged, Hagopian reveals his evilness as he is also about to kill the young girl who helped him getting access to the original collection. Police arrives just in time to save her life and to detain the greedy murderer.

This episode starts in one of the typical 1970's waterfront hotels right beneath the Embarcadero freeway - the now demolished Embarcadero Hotel, to be precise. Filming locations also include the Coroner's Office at the San Francisco Police Department, Hagopian's coin shop in Maiden Lane as well as Union Square, and Washington Square. Quite interesting, by the way, there is a certain focus on crime lab procedures and securing of evidence in this episode as Mike and Steve are frequently consulting Charlie Johnson, the leading lab technician, for the latest results and demonstration of up-to-date crime lab techniques.

Promotional Folder and Advertisement added

The media page was supplemented by a rather rare promotional folder issued by Worldvision Enterprises in the 1980's. Worldvision was a television program distributor, and a subsidiary of the ABC Television Network, hence responsible for the re-distribution of the series following its original run in the 1970's. That campaign also comprised full-page advertisements (which can be seen on the media page, too) as well as comprehensive informative materials on the series aimed at TV stations all over the United States, e.g. media release folders including a full synopsis of episode numbers and summaries.
